Colloidal Silver has been an invaluable part of my family medicine cabinet for many years now. Often termed as a natural antibiotic, it is said to have broad antibacterial and antiseptic properties when taken in small amounts orally or placed on a wound.
Its medical, preservative and restorative powers can be traced back thousands of years to the ancient Greek and Roman Empires. In fact, ancient civilizations applied the metal to help heal open wounds, sailors tossed silver coins into storage barrels to keep the drinking water fresh, whilst royalty and nobles drank from silver goblets.
When I create a new product for MOA, I love to research and investigate the folklore surrounding each ingredient. I find it so fascinating and it’s a source of much inspiration for my products and illustrations. Unsurprisingly, silver is steeped in mystical tales of protection and magic!
Egyptian, Roman, Aztec, Native American, and many other cultures cherished and searched for silver because of its healing and protective properties. Its cool, ethereal, and reflective nature was said to bring calm, balance, and protection to wearers of its jewellery. Silver was thought to represent the feminine moon, just as many early cultures considered gold the metal of the sun. Folklore throughout Europe credits silver as being an antidote to many illnesses and a defence against mythical creatures. We’re all familiar with stories and films depicting silver as the chosen weapon against vampires…and of course, the only way to kill a werewolf was with a blade or bullet made of silver!
But it’s not all hearsay, as studies have shown that colloidal silver can kill a wide range of bacteria. It’s unknown exactly how colloidal silver works, however, research suggests that the tiny nanoparticles attach to proteins on the cell walls of bacteria, damaging their cell membranes.
I have used this potent tool to clear up many common ailments from tonsillitis, ear and eye infections, and numerous minor skin wounds, catching them in the early stages before they need any further treatment. I also like to apply a pipette under the tongue several times a day if I have flu-like symptoms.
